MODTAC designed the Modular Rail Attach Coupler Suppressor Shield – (M-RAC) to provide a free-float suppressor cover solution specifically for the US Army Special Operations Command’s (SOCOM) new rifle, the Upper Receiver Group Improved, (URGI) and the Knights Armament URX-4 forend, a favorite of federal law enforcement agencies.
The M-RAC Suppressor Shield mounting system utilizes the two forward most M-LOK® slots on the 3 O’clock and 9 O’clock position of the forend to securely lock in the female coupler, which allows for a quick disconnect of the suppressor shield. This mounting system provides a rock-solid mount for the Suppressor Shield to be centered over the suppressor in a free-float configuration.
The second generation of Suppressor Shields are designed to be completely free floated over the barrel and suppressor. This accomplished two objectives. First, it reduces the amount of heat transferred from the rifle suppressor to the outer surface of the shield. Second, it is the most secure suppressor cover attachment on the market.
The MODTAC M-RAC Suppressor Shield is nearly 20% lighter than previous generations, while providing a greater clearance for suppressors, and stronger engaging threads on the coupler.
This design has been tested and reported on by agency after agency and the proven combination of an air gap, proper venting, and low thermal transfer materials results in almost 50% reduction in both max outer surface temperature and suppressor cool down time. The resulting lower temperatures will lengthen the life of your suppressor compared to the heat trapping found with traditional fabric style suppressor wraps.
The carbon fiber rigid outer hull is both impact and heat resistant, allowing for a drastic reduction in temperature for hot suppressors up to or exceeding 1000°F, while being able to take the abuse that weapons see on the battlefield.

MODTAC independent testing utilized commercially available tools to identify the measurable difference between suppressor temperature and the outer surface of the Suppressor Shield (Performance Capability) of the free-float version of the Suppressor Shield.
