Introducing the Precision Rifle Suppressor Shield (PRSS)
The carbon fiber PRSS Suppressor Shield is unlike any other suppressor cover for Bolt-Action rifles and Long Barrel AR’s. The PRSS is designed to provide unparalleled performance and mitigate the chance of burns, while nearly completely eliminating the effects of mirage.
The PRSS uses a barrel-mounted coupler to place your Shield where it needs to be for maximum performance. The mount is offered in several options, all based on the diameter of your barrel. Mounting an accessory to your barrel will not affect your rifle’s performance.
Before the PRSS, military, law enforcement, and hunters faced extreme heat and potential burns from hot suppressors, as well as damage to their can from the field. Fabric wraps, while offering some protection, trap heat inside of your suppressor. This can lead to poor performance and a shorter lifespan for your suppressor. MODTAC solved this problem by introducing a rigid, free-floating design that insulates the suppressor with an air gap, promoting airflow for faster cool-down times.
The PRSS also features the same quick-disconnect system, as our other shields, that securely holds the shield in place and remains solid even under taxing schedules of fire including magnum cartridges. Utilizing a lightweight aluminum coupler and a high temp carbon fiber outer hull, the PRSS is not just a first line of defense but a natural extension of your firearm, ensuring quick, precise operational efficiency in the harshest of conditions.
Length Measurement
The PRSS XL is only compatible with suppressors 1.9″ and smaller for now.
To select the correct length, measure the length of your suppressor including the locking ring, and add 0.6″ (5/8″) excluding any brakes, or vented end caps, This allows your suppressor to be completely covered by carbon fiber, to completely eliminate mirage.
Example:
For a TBAC Ultra 7, your measurement will be 7″ + .6″ = 7.6″
You may choose a 7.5″ with end cap, or 8″ for full coverage of the suppressor
Barrel Diameter Measurement
The PRSS is designed to accommodate a range of barrel diameters in .050″ ranges.
In order to select the proper measurement, you will need a set of calipers, or micrometer.
With a tape measure, Mark a line 1.5″ behind the muzzle shoulder or the rearward most point of your muzzle brake/suppressor.
At this mark, measure the diameter of your barrel.
PRSS Hardware is marked with the Top number of the range it will fit.
1. .700″- .750″ = .750”
2. .751″ – .800″ = .800”
3. .801″-.850″ = .850”
4. .851″-.900″ = .900”
5. .901″ – .950″ = .950”
6. .951″ – 1.000″ = 1.000”
7. 1.001″ – 1.050″ = 1.050″
8. 1.051″ – 1.100″ = 1.100″
At this time, MODTAC does not offer mounting hardware for barrels larger than 1.100″ in diameter.

Which barrels will the PRSS fit?
Currently, the PRSS will fit barrel diameters between .700″ and 1.000″, and is offered in .050″ increments.
Will this Affect Harmonics or give me a POI shift?
NO, after thorough testing the PRSS has proven not to change your zero or point of impact at all.
While eliminating mirage, over 90% of our test groups were smaller with the shield installed on the gun, then with just the suppressor and no shield.
Just as you would zero with a suppressor, and keep it on your gun, once your gun is zeroed with the PRSS, it will not have any negative affect on your accuracy.
As with all muzzle attachments, we recommend confirming zero after your PRSS is installed.
Why should I get the PRSS?
The PRSS is MODTAC’s newest shield, and offers a significant upgrade to using Direct Attach Shields on bolt action rifles. with the addition of the PRSS, you’ll be able to mount the shield directly to your barrel, and maintain the free-floating shield, to reduce the exposed temperature and eliminating mirage for good!
What Makes modtac shields unique
All MODTAC Suppressor Shields are designed to be free floating over the suppressor, with an air gap between the source of heat (your hot suppressor) and the inside of the shield. This lets your suppressor breathe and cool down quicker.
Are suppressor shields different than suppressor wraps?
Yes, Suppressor Shields are a rail/barrel mounted, rigid, and free floating design which does not retain heat inside of the suppressor, unlike a suppressor wrap. Additionally, there is no fabric in the our products that can come loose under pressure or melt to your rifle or suppressor.
